The Georgia Department of Veterans Service has a new Appeals Director.

Commissioner Mike Roby has announced his appointment of appeals officer Henri Torres to the position.

Mr. Torres joined the GDVS Appeals Division in 2013. As part of his duties, Mr. Torres served as the American Legion Department Service Officer starting in 2014.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Torres enlisted in 1981 and served three years as a laboratory medical specialist. Mr. Torres graduated as a distinguished military graduate from ROTC and went on to flight school where he became a helicopter pilot. Mr. Torres left the Army in 1991 at the rank of captain.

Before joining the GDVS, Mr. Torres owned his own business and ran operations for a national corporation. He later served as Director of Operations at Rabbi Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy in Miami Beach, Florida. Mr. Torres has also been actively involved in education for over 35 years, tutoring and teaching art while simultaneously pursuing his professional career.

Born and raised in Miami, Mr. Torres graduated from Florida International University and participated in an ROTC Commission at the University of Miami.
