“Supermarket of Veterans Benefits” Proclamation Signing Set for Nov. 7 in Albany

November 1, 2012

On Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, Georgia Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Pete Wheeler, leaders of the local veteran organizations and auxiliaries, and representatives of participating agencies will meet with Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard for the signing of a proclamation designating Dec. 5, 2012, as “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day” in Albany. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. in Room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine St., Albany, GA 31701.

The 47th “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits” will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Albany Civic Center. The event is co-sponsored by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits” brings together representatives from federal, state, and local agencies involved with providing benefits to veterans and their dependents. It provides veterans and their dependents with the opportunity to gather information and get assistance in all areas relating to benefits at one time in one location.

The Georgia Department of Veterans Service originated these one-day programs in 1966.  Since then, programs have been held annually at various locations throughout the state. This will be the sixth time Albany has hosted the Supermarket.

The mayor’s proclamation signing ceremony is open to the public.
