Educational Benefits

The Georgia HERO Scholarship program provides educational scholarship assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservists who served in combat zones, and the children and the spouses of such members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reserves.

Veterans may be eligible for educational benefits as part of numerous GI Bill programs.

These programs can provide for tuition and fees, housing allowances, and books and supplies among other benefits.

Georgia veterans are advised to consider applying for Chapter 1607 or Chapter 33 benefits when considering continuing their education or training.

The children of 100% permanent and total disabled veterans who turn 18 during their senior year of high school can start receiving Chapter 35 (Dependent Education Assistance) benefits while still attending high school. It does not take away from their 36 months of DEA benefits for college, OJT, and/or apprenticeships.

For assistance in applying for any of these benefits, contact a GDVS office.
