GDVS Hosts Veterans Stakeholder Roundtable
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service hosted a think tank meeting this week with key veteran stakeholders from Veteran Service Organizations and all three Georgia Community Veterans Engagement Boards to discuss veteran advocacy and strengthen collaborative efforts across the state.
Convened by the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Georgia, the meeting brought together leadership from major Veteran Service Organizations and community partners, including the State Commander of American Veterans (AMVETS), State Vice Commander of the American Legion, state leadership of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the founder of Hero Agriculture, the Executive Director of Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program, the founder of Georgia Military Women, the founder of the Georgia Veteran Network, along with board members of VETLANTA, the Vice President of Operations at the Warrior Alliance, and Student Veterans of America.
The roundtable convened in Atlanta to discuss the evolving needs of Georgia’s veteran population and align group efforts for a more unified support network. Discussions focused on legislative priorities, coordinating outreach, and planning strategically to best serve the military and veteran communities in upcoming years. The meeting also provided a forum for participants to share essential resources and effective practices for helping veterans and their families.
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service remains committed to fostering partnerships with Veteran Service Organizations, community groups, and state agencies to ensure that Georgia’s veterans receive the care, respect, and opportunities they have earned through service.

About GDVS:
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service (GDVS) is not part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, but is an agency of Georgia’s state government created for the purpose of advising, counseling, and assisting Georgia’s veterans and their families in receiving their rightful benefits under the vast and complex framework of veterans’ laws. The GDVS mission, to serve Georgia's veterans and their families in all matters pertaining to veterans benefits, falls into two basic tasks: informing veterans and their families about veterans’ benefits, and directly assisting and advising veterans and their families in securing the federal and state benefits to which they are entitled.
Veterans or their family members should contact their local field office to schedule an appointment. Find a veterans service office near you at: https://veterans.georgia.gov/field-offices.
