The Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS), in coordination with the Georgia Department of Veterans Service (GDVS), has completed the competitive procurement process for the operation of the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. Following the conclusion of the procurement, HMR Veterans Services, Inc. was selected as the successful contractor and will assume operational responsibility for the facility effective October 1, 2026.

The Georgia War Veterans Home – Milledgeville is Georgia’s flagship state veterans’ home and provides skilled nursing care, rehabilitative support, memory care, and specialized services to Georgia’s veterans.

HMR Veterans Services, Inc., has extensive experience in operating state veterans’ homes and other long-term care facilities. They currently oversee veterans’ homes in several states and have expertise in providing skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, memory care, and clinical operations tailored for veterans’ unique needs. Their history of working closely with state veterans’ agencies and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs will help ensure a smooth transition and continued compliance with all federal and state requirements.

The GDVS and HMR have started working together on a transition plan to keep resident care and daily operations running smoothly. Key priorities during this process include:

  • Maintaining uninterrupted, high-quality care of residents.
  • Preserving staffing stability whenever possible by offering employment opportunities.
  • Providing timely updates to residents, families, and employees.
  • Meeting all state and federal licensing, regulatory, and VA requirements.
  • Ensuring the facility is stable and fully operational during the transition period.

Residents should see no changes or disruptions to their care. GDVS will closely monitor the transition to ensure clinical care, resident safety, and quality of care remain the highest priorities as HMR assumes daily operations.
