Annual training for the Georgia Department of Veterans Service concluded with outstanding test results.

GDVS veterans field service officers spent a week participating in annual training with classes led by senior department personnel.

“Department employees participated in 18 classes on veterans benefits and regulations this year,” said George Canavaggio, Assistant Commissioner for Field Operations & Appeals. “Our training included more discussion-based courses, encouraging collaboration on difficult questions that our veterans field service officers are commonly asked.”

Following this week of focused training, GDVS service officers took a culminating exam to test their knowledge of veterans benefits.

Passing the exam is necessary for service officers to maintain their certifications. Every certified GDVS service officer passed the exam.

“I am very impressed with our employees’ performance,” said GDVS Commissioner Mike Roby. “This was the most intense training we have ever held and I am proud to see our service officers succeed.”

The GDVS operates veterans field service offices across the state. Veterans Field Service Officers are accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and are certified by eight national Veterans Service Organizations.

Georgia’s veterans and their families can receive direct assistance from any GDVS field office in all matters pertaining to veterans benefits.
