No words can express how sorry we are that the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home family experienced a terrible act of domestic violence on Friday, February 9.

The State Veterans Service Board and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service want to commend the leadership and staff of Augusta University, Augusta-Richmond County law enforcement officials, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and most of all the leadership at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home (GWVNH-Augusta) for their effective response to the death of Ms. Jazna Timmons.

The Augusta University and GWVNH-Augusta emergency preparedness plans allowed for quick and efficient on-the-scene response by law enforcement and medical personnel involved.

The leadership at GWVNH-Augusta ensured that veteran patients continued to receive medical care and maintained their safety.

We commend the acts of all Augusta University officials at every level who were involved. We thank them all for meeting this very difficult and emotional challenge. The university is not just a partner in the mission of veteran patient care, they are a vital part of the healthcare team.

The State Veteran Service Board and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service leadership also commend the home’s Executive Director, Carlton Deese, and his staff for the outstanding display of confidence, professionalism, and leadership during this very difficult time at the GWVNH-Augusta.

Their ability to effectively and efficiently execute the emergency/crisis management plans demonstrated that GWVNH-Augusta ranks at the top for veteran patient care and safety, not just in Georgia, but nationwide.
