GDVS Serves LaGrange Veterans in New Location
The LaGrange office of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service recently relocated into the Career Center of the Georgia Department of Labor located at 1002 Longley Place (30240).
This two person office will still be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on state holidays. Veterans and their families will still be seen on a “first come, first serve” basis. There are no appointments necessary.
“This new location inside the Department of Labor’s Career Center will help connect veterans with other services and benefits they may not know they qualify for,” said GDVS Commissioner Mike Roby.
Commissioner Roby encourages Georgia veterans living in Harris, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup counties to go by and see Charles Drake (Office Manager) or Leonard Harris (VFSO), both accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the GDVS to file veteran benefits claims.
Both Drake and Harris can be reached by calling 706-845-4381 or 4355 and via email at [email protected] or [email protected].
Drake and Harris can assist in filing applications for VA healthcare, compensation for service-connected disabilities, pension for wartime veterans or surviving spouses, financial assistance for home health care, assisted living and nursing home care, Certificates of Eligibility for a VA Home Loan, and Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits.
They can also assist in certifying a veteran’s eligibility for the many benefits provided by the state (driver’s licenses, special motor vehicle license plates, honorary hunting and fishing licenses, discounts at Department of Natural Resources facilities, Certificates of Exemption from payment of certain fees and taxation, etc.).
The LaGrange office serves over 9,700 veterans residing in and around Troup County. During fiscal year 2017, more than $84,500,000 in veterans benefits were distributed between Harris, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup counties by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
