Mayor Randy Toms proclaimed Thursday, April 25, as “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day” in Warner Robins. The free event will be held in the Larry Walker Arena on Central Georgia Technical College’s Warner Robins campus.

Georgia Commissioner of Veterans Service Mike Roby and members of the State Veterans Service Board met with Mayor Toms Monday at the Warner Robins City Hall for the issuing of a proclamation declaring the day as “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day.”

“The City of Warner Robins and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service have enjoyed a great partnership for many years,” Mayor Toms said. “A lot of veterans, like me, have gotten help from the local office. I’m happy to have an event that will connect more veterans with vital services.”

The Supermarket is a signature event of the GDVS and has been held in various cities across the state.

“Thousands of veterans and their families have benefited from the Supermarket since we began hosting them in 1966,” said GDVS Commissioner Mike Roby. “Our Warner Robins team is excited to host the Supermarket this year. We are looking forward to bringing assistance from many federal, state, and local agencies to veterans from all around middle Georgia.”

The Supermarket of Veterans Benefits will be held at the Larry Walker Arena on Central Georgia Technical College’s Warner Robins campus (80 Cohen Walker Drive, Warner Robins GA 31088) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.

In addition to the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, some of the other agencies represented will include the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; the Social Security Administration; the University of Georgia; TRICARE; the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; Small Business Administration; the Georgia Department of Driver Services; the Georgia and U.S. Departments of Labor; and representatives of state and federal medical facilities.

The event will include a health fair provided by medical personnel from the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. Free medical screenings and seasonal flu shots will be available.

The State of Georgia offers free assistance to veterans through the GDVS, the state government agency established for the purpose of advising, counseling, and assisting veterans and their families in receiving their earned benefits under the vast, frequently changing, and complex framework of veterans’ laws.

At the local level, the GDVS operates a Veterans Field Service Office in Warner Robins, serving veterans in Houston and Peach counties. The office is managed by Ronnie Simmons, an experienced veterans field service officer, and is located at 1001 S. Armed Forces Blvd, inside of the VECTR Center.
