Each year in December, families and local veterans gather at Georgia’s two memorial cemeteries in Milledgeville and Glennville to honor and remember the spirit of those laid to rest.

“Taking a moment during the busy holiday season to honor the dignity and memory of those who served before us is important,” said Commissioner of Veterans Service Mike Roby. “Georgia has always shown an appreciation for the service of those laid to rest at our veteran cemeteries.”

As part of Wreaths Across America, live wreaths made of balsam fir are placed at the headstones of each veteran buried at the cemetery.

Both of Georgia’s Veterans Memorial Cemeteries host public programs before the wreath-laying begins to remember the service and sacrifices of Georgia’s veterans.

“Programs like this aren’t possible without the support of our local communities,” said Russ Feagin, Director of the GDVS Health and Memorials division. “The deadline to donate a wreath is December 3. With your help, we can ensure every headstone and veteran is honored.”

Volunteers are encouraged to attend the public ceremonies and remain to help place wreaths on graves.

The ceremonies will be held at 12 p.m. on December 14 at both Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemeteries.

To donate a wreath to GVMC-Milledgeville or GVMC-Glennville, please visit the Wreaths Across America website and use location code GAGVMM for Milledgeville or GAVMCG for Glennville.

Veterans and families can also mail a donation using the forms below. Using a group code, found at the bottom of the forms, allows the cemeteries to receive two wreaths for every one donated. Some groups may receive funds raised from the use of these codes.
