GDVS Serving Northwest Georgia Veterans in New Location
The LaFayette office of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service has recently moved and is ready to assist veterans in the Chattooga, Dade, and Walker county area.
The office is now located on Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Rock Springs campus at 265 Bicentennial Trail, Rock Spring, GA 30739.
Service members, veterans, and their families, caretakers, and survivors are asked to make an appointment before visiting, though walk-ins will be seen as time permits. To schedule an appointment, contact the office by phone at 706-764-3530 or by emailing Office Manager William Smith at [email protected].
The office can assist in filing applications for VA healthcare, compensation for service-connected disabilities, pension for wartime veterans or surviving family members, financial assistance for home health care, assisted living and nursing home care, Certificates of Eligibility for VA home loans, and Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits.
They can also assist in certifying eligibility for many benefits provided by the state (i.e., special motor vehicle license plates, honorary hunting and fishing licenses, discounts at Department of Natural Resources parks and facilities, and Certificates of Exemption from payment of certain fees and taxation for veteran small business owners).

About GDVS:
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service (GDVS) is not part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, but is an agency of Georgia’s state government created for the purpose of advising, counseling, and assisting Georgia’s veterans and their families in receiving their rightful benefits under the vast and complex framework of veterans’ laws. The GDVS mission, to serve Georgia's veterans and their families in all matters pertaining to veterans benefits, falls into two basic tasks: informing veterans and their families about veterans’ benefits, and directly assisting and advising veterans and their families in securing the federal and state benefits to which they are entitled.
Veterans or their family members should contact their local field office to schedule an appointment. Locate a veterans service office near you at: https://veterans.georgia.gov/field-offices.
