The Georgia War Veterans Home, situated on approximately 17 acres in Milledgeville, is a 262-bed facility licensed and certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide skilled nursing care to aged and infirm Georgia war veterans.

The Richard B. Russell Building underwent renovations and now operates as a skilled care sub-acute therapy unit for service-connected disabled veteran residents.

The GWVH-Milledgeville Transitional Support Unit opened in September 2025. This is the first state-run veteran's home facility to offer skilled nursing care and comprehensive mental and behavioral health services for veterans suffering from a variety of ailments. Veteran residents have access to a range of therapies and services tailored to their individual needs.

Residents have access to several recreational facilities. These include a fitness center; an 18-hole miniature golf course; a library; computers with Internet access and Skype; and a multi-purpose recreation center with pool tables, table games, books, and a large collection of movies.

The GDVS Veterans Field Service Office serving veterans in the home and in Baldwin, Hancock, Putnam, Washington, and Wilkinson counties is located in the Wheeler Building. This office also serves veteran patients of the Home by assisting them with compensation and pension claims, counseling services, and family-related issues.

Many veterans service organizations, civic groups, and church groups sponsor activities such as movies, games, dance parties, bingo, picnics, and other activities and programs for the general well-being of the veteran residents at the home.

The home also hosts a VA community clinic that provides outpatient care to veterans in Baldwin and the surrounding counties.
